Miami-Dade corrections officer kills himself on Overtown street
A Miami-Dade corrections officer killed himself Tuesday night in his car in the middle of a major street in Overtown.
He shot himself in the head shortly before 7 p.m. near Northwest 20th Street and Fifth Place, said Officer Jeffrey Giordano, a Miami police spokesman. Investigators do not believe anyone else was involved, Giordano said.
The man, whose name was withheld until his family could be notified, was on a dinner break and in uniform when he committed suicide, Giordano said. He died at the scene.
